Ahmedabad: The management of a computer education institute was issued a notice, fined Rs 3.2 lakh and ordered to plant 120 trees for illegally chopping the branches of 12 trees on the divider of Sola Science City Road. They hacked the trees to make their advertisement board was more visible. In its notice, the garden department of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) stated, “KICT Computer Education operated classes in a building named Azon Solitaire on Science City Road in the Gota ward. The management, without seeking AMC’s approval, illegally cut down 12 green trees from the top, causing environmental damage. As compensation for the damage, a fine of Rs 1,000 per tree and an administrative charge of Rs 1,000 will be levied. “Additionally, the operator is ordered to plant 120 trees in place of the 12 trees and maintain them. They have to provide assurance on a Rs 300 stamp paper. Furthermore, for the maintenance of the new trees, an annual deposit of Rs 2,500 per tree is required, amounting to a total of Rs 3 lakh and an administrative charge of Rs 24,000, making a total of Rs 3.2 lakh to be deposited.”
