Ahmedabad: A speeding car allegedly rammed into multiple vehicles near Lal Darwaza in Ahmedabad on Thursday night before locals chased the car and caught the driver near Ellisbridge Crossroads. One person injured in the accident was admitted to a private hospital in Bodakdev, police said.The injured man was identified as Chirag Gadhia, a clerk at the Home Guard Bhavan in Lal Darwaza. He sustained injuries after the car collided with vehicles near the busy Lucky Tea Stall area, a traffic police officer said. According to preliminary investigations, the accused, a 20-year-old resident of Vasna, was driving a rented car. Two friends were riding with him when the accident occurred. Police said the vehicle approached at high speed from the Shahpur side and allegedly hit three to four vehicles on the way before crashing into a two-wheeler near Lal Darwaza. After causing the accidents, the driver attempted to flee. Traffic Regulation Brigade (TRB) personnel who reached the spot assisted residents in detaining the driver and taking him to Ellisbridge police station. Police said the accused did not possess a valid driving licence. “A medical test was conducted to ascertain whether the driver was under the influence of alcohol,” a traffic police officer said. Police said the car was rented for an outing with friends. The driver allegedly lost control of the steering, resulting in the chain of collisions. Traffic police have initiated legal action against the accused and are in the process of registering a case. Further investigation was underway.
