Ahmedabad: After a week of relentless heat that saw the mercury soar to a blistering 44.8°C on Sunday, Amdavadis finally caught a modest break this Thursday. In just three days, the maximum temperature retreated by 2.5 degrees, settling at a more “manageable” 41.7°C — the closest the city has felt to normalcy in days. While the minimum temperature remains a sticky 27.6°C, the daytime dip has provided a much-needed, albeit temporary, sigh of relief for those navigating the city’s sun-baked streets. “Today was relatively better as we did not have to turn on the airconditioner early in the morning to cool down as we have been doing for the past few days,” said Shruti Khanna, a resident of Prahladnagar.However, the India meteorological department (IMD) forecast reveals that this “solace” is relative. With a forecast of 42°C for Friday and a week of over 40°C temperatures ahead, the state remains gripped by summer’s firm hand.Rajkot was the hottest city in the state at 42.4°C, followed by Surendranagar at 42°C. Some other cities and towns with high temperatures included Kandla and Gandhinagar at 41°C, and Amreli at 40.7°C.
