Ahmedabad: A 30-year-old woman in New Chandkheda committed suicide after months of alleged dowry-related harassment and abuse by her husband and in-laws, police said, citing a complaint filed by her father.The woman, married in June 2022, lived with her husband, mother-in-law, father-in-law and sister-in-law. Her family alleged that the marriage was initially cordial, but her husband later demanded Rs 2 lakh, claiming he was in debt and had received no dowry. The complaint said the in-laws supported the demand and repeatedly taunted her. Her father stated he eventually paid Rs 2 lakh in cash, but the harassment continued.According to the complaint, the husband developed a drinking habit and assaulted the woman when she objected. He also allegedly threatened her. The woman, employed at a mobile phone service store in New Ranip, was reportedly forced to hand over her salary to her in-laws.On Thursday night, she called her elder sister, crying and alleging torture by her husband and in-laws. The call disconnected soon after. Her father-in-law subsequently informed them of her death.
