Mangaluru: Ahinda Chaluvali Dakshina Kannada has urged the state and Union govts to immediately publish and implement the reports of the Kantharaj Commission, Jayaprakash Hegde Commission and Madhusudhan Naik Commission, and conduct the caste census and population census across the country at the earliest.Addressing the media Monday, Siraj Bajpe, chief convener of Ahinda Chalawali Dakshina Kannada, said the demands were aimed at strengthening social justice, equality and the rights of backward communities. He said the organisation would submit a memorandum through the deputy commissioner to both the state and Union govts.“The social, economic and educational data collected through these surveys would provide information on the actual conditions of different communities and help the govt formulate welfare schemes and reservation policies on a scientific basis,” Siraj said.He also urged the govt to discuss the demands in the assembly and take immediate steps to implement them.The organisation urged the Union govt to conduct the caste census and population census across the country at the earliest and make the data available publicly.Siraj said reliable data on the social, economic and educational status of different communities was necessary to understand their actual conditions and ensure equitable distribution of govt resources and benefits. He said the absence of updated and reliable data could affect the formulation of policies aimed at social justice and equal opportunities.The organisation also sought transparency in the collection and use of caste and socio-economic data and urged the govts to take the demands seriously and initiate action without delay.
