Srinagar, August 10: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, V.K. Birdi-IPS on Monday chaired a high-level security review meeting at Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to assess the prevailing security situation and review arrangements for the forthcoming Independence Day celebrations and other scheduled events across the Kashmir Valley.
The meeting was attended by senior officers of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agencies, security formations, traffic police and other concerned departments.
Among those present were senior officers from the BSF, CRPF, SSB, CID, ITBP, Railway Protection Force, Traffic Police, IRP and Armed Police, along with Range DIGs, district SSPs, PCR officials and representatives of various intelligence and security agencies.
At the outset, the IGP was briefed on the prevailing security scenario and preparations being undertaken to ensure the smooth, peaceful and incident-free conduct of Independence Day celebrations and other events across the Valley.
District Superintendents of Police apprised the meeting of security arrangements in their respective districts, including deployment of personnel, surveillance measures, route security, access control and steps to maintain law and order during the celebrations.
Security at Bakshi Stadium Reviewed
The IGP reviewed security arrangements for various events planned across Kashmir, including rallies and public programmes. Specific responsibilities were assigned to concerned officers to ensure effective coordination and timely completion of preparations.
Detailed arrangements for the main Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar were also reviewed.
Birdi directed officers to further strengthen security at and around the venue, with comprehensive arrangements covering critical points, access routes and surrounding areas.
Focus on Night Checkpoints and Vulnerable Locations
The IGP directed officers to strengthen security checkpoints, particularly during night hours, at vulnerable locations and along important entry and exit routes of Srinagar city.
He stressed the need for enhanced vigilance at sensitive locations and directed officers to ensure that security arrangements remain effective round the clock.
He also called for intensified area domination and patrolling in sensitive and vulnerable areas to maintain a visible security presence and strengthen surveillance.
Emphasis on Surveillance and Coordination
Birdi stressed the need for strict vigilance against elements posing a threat to peace and security and called upon officers to maintain a high level of alertness within their respective jurisdictions.
He emphasized close coordination among the J&K Police, CAPFs, intelligence agencies and other security formations, particularly for information sharing and timely response to any emerging security challenge.
Officers were directed to complete all necessary preparations well in advance and ensure effective implementation of security protocols at important venues, routes and vulnerable locations.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to heightened vigilance, enhanced surveillance, strengthened security arrangements and seamless inter-agency coordination to ensure the peaceful, safe and orderly conduct of Independence Day celebrations and other scheduled events across the Kashmir Valley.
