SASARAM: A woman allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday after consuming poison along with her two minor children as she was reportedly unable to cope with the trauma of her husband’s murder and threats from the accused.The incident occurred in Muradabad under Mufassil police station area of Rohtas district.The deceased was identified as Reshma Khatoon. She, along with her four-year-old daughter Taiyba and one-and-a-half-year-old son Hamzad, allegedly consumed poison at their residence late Monday night. On Tuesday morning, when no movement was noticed inside the house for a long time, neighbours grew suspicious and intervened.The three were found unconscious and rushed to a private clinic in Raj Colony, Sasaram. As their condition deteriorated, they were referred to Varanasi for advanced treatment, where Reshma Khatoon later died. Her two kids are fighting for lives. Rohtas SP Roshan Kumar confirmed the death of Reshma.The incident comes just days after the murder of Reshma’s husband, Hasan Raza Khan, who was lynched on March 24 over a land dispute on a state highway. According to reports, the assailants tied his hands and legs with ropes, dragged him on the highway and brutally beat him to death in full public view. The entire incident was captured on video and widely circulated on social media.Four, out of eight accused, have been arrested so far. The family members alleged that they were living under constant fear and receiving threats from the remaining accused. Even the person who recorded the video of the incident has reportedly been threatened.The extreme step taken by Reshma is being linked to the mental trauma and fear following the incident.Dr Chitranjan Singh, who initially treated Reshma and her kids at the private clinic, said the three had consumed pesticide.The SP said arrest warrants have been obtained for the remaining accused, and efforts are underway to apprehend them.
