In an interesting turn of events, Bihar Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar has established 19 House committees for the 2026-27 session, designating both chairpersons and members. Among the notable appointments are Congress MLAs Manohar Prasad Singh and Faisal Rehman, who previously chose to abstain from the Rajya Sabha voting, now stepping into leadership roles within the committees.

Patna: State assembly Speaker Prem Kumar on Tuesday constituted 19 House committees for the 2026-27 period, assigning chairmanship and membership of three of them to three lawmakers.While Kumar himself will head two committees, the list includes Congress MLAs Manohar Prasad Singh (Manihari) and Faisal Rehman (Dhaka), as well as JD(U) MLA Anant Singh from the Mokama assembly seat.Manohar has been made chairman of the Pratyayukta Samiti, while Rehman has been appointed chairman of the non-governmental bills and resolutions committee. Anant has been made a member of the environment protection and pollution control committee.Both Manohar and Rehman had abstained from voting in the recent Rajya Sabha elections. As a result, the Grand Alliance candidate and sitting Rajya Sabha member Amarendra Dhari Singh lost the fifth seat to Shivesh Ram of the BJP.
