Gurgaon: The administration on Wednesday convened a meeting to intensify voter outreach in Haryana’s worst-performing district. With only 66% of electors verified, it ranks at the bottom among the state’s 22 districts, well below the state average. The meeting was held with booth-level officers (BLOs), resident welfare associations (RWAs) and municipal councillors, a day after Election Commission (EC) extended the timeline for the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The officials urged RWAs and elected representatives to persuade residents — particularly those living in gated societies and high-rise condominiums — to cooperate with BLOs and complete the verification process.Officials admitted that the administration cannot compel voters to participate in the exercise and that convincing residents remains the biggest challenge. EC’s extension provided additional time to improve coverage, but authorities said public cooperation will be critical to achieving comprehensive electoral roll verification before the revised deadline. At the meeting with supervisors and BLOs, Badshapur SDM and electoral registration officer Sanjeev Singla directed officials to fully utilise the extended timeline to complete voter verification, collect pending enumeration forms and update electoral records in accordance with the EC guidelines. “Supervisors were instructed to closely monitor the work of BLOs and review progress daily to ensure pending verification is completed within the revised schedule,” said Singla.Haryana has 90 assembly constituencies, out of which four assembly constituencies are in Gurgaon district — Gurgaon, Badshapur, Sohna and Pataudi. Gurgaon assembly constituency has emerged as the biggest concern in Haryana’s SIR exercise, recording the state’s lowest digitisation rate of just 55%, while neighbouring Badshapur ranked second from the bottom at just over 60%, according to the EC status report. The numbers reveal a striking urban-rural divide. While several rural constituencies, including Ellenabad (95%), Loharu (95%) and Tohana (94%), have crossed the 94% mark in digitising enumeration forms, urban constituencies across the city and Faridabad continue to lag significantly. Within Gurgaon district, only Pataudi has crossed the state average at 83%, while Sohna stands at 77%, highlighting the sharp disparity within the district itself.Badshapur also recorded the state’s highest number of pending electors at 96,270, while Gurgaon still has more than 24,000 electors pending. Together, these two constituencies account for a disproportionately large share of Haryana’s unfinished work.Statewide, Haryana has digitised 1.70 crore of its 2.06 crore electors, achieving an overall digitisation rate of 82.41%. The overall completion of the SIR process reached 98.65%, with 2.78 lakh electors still pending.
