Ludhiana: Relief is on the horizon for city’s residents who are enduring an unseasonably warm March, with the meteorological department issuing a “yellow alert” for severe weather disturbances beginning from Sunday. The city has been gripped by temperatures significantly above seasonal norms. On Friday, daytime highs reached 31°C — more than 4°C above the average — while night temperatures hovered at a balmy 18.6°C, a staggering 6°C higher than normal. The heat has forced residents to consider early use of air conditioning, a rarity for this point in the year. A local businessman, Kuldeep Singh, said: “I have not seen such hot conditions during March in many years. Whenever I go out, the thirst is constant.” However, the meteorological department predicts a sharp shift. A yellow alert has been issued for Sunday and Monday, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by hailstorms and strong surface winds. This atmospheric disturbance is expected to break the heatwave, with daytime temperatures projected to tumble to 28°C by Tuesday. The mercury is expected to continue its descent through the week, with nighttime lows potentially dipping to 13°C. Residents can expect partly cloudy skies and scattered thundershowers through Thursday. Authorities have advised relevant departments to remain updated as the inclement weather approaches, marking a volatile transition from an early summer back to cooler, unstable conditions.
