Srinagar, September 4 : Political Youth Leader and Advocate Maroof Khan has strongly urged the J&K Government to immediately enhance the monthly stipend of MBBS intern doctors from ₹12,300 to ₹30,000, terming their demand legitimate, reasonable and fully justified.
Khan said it is deeply unjust that young doctors working round the clock, undertaking night duties, responding to emergencies and providing essential patient care continue to receive such a meagre stipend.
“This is not merely about money; it is about rights, respect and dignity. Our young doctors serve society with commitment, compassion and pride. Those who stand beside patients through the night and dedicate themselves to saving lives deserve fair compensation and the dignity they have earned,” Khan said.
He said the demand for ₹30,000 per month is justified in view of their demanding workload, professional responsibilities, extended working hours and rising cost of living.
Recalling the sacrifices of doctors and healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, Khan said, “When the world was gripped by fear and uncertainty, our doctors stood courageously on the frontline and risked their own safety to save lives. Their sacrifices must never be forgotten.”
Khan urged Honb’le Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Health & Medical Education Minister to personally intervene and resolve the long-pending issue without further delay.
“Our young doctors are not asking for charity; they are asking for justice. I stand firmly with them and will continue to raise their legitimate voice until this genuine demand is addressed,” Khan said.
