Lucknow: UP’s first state-of-the-art govt-run OPD endoscopy lab for head and neck cancer patients was inaugurated at SGPGIMS on Saturday, coinciding with World Head and Neck Cancer Day.
Inaugurated by SGPGIMS dean Prof Shaleen Kumar and chief medical superintendent Prof Devendra Gupta, the facility is expected to strengthen early diagnosis, in-clinic procedures and post-treatment surveillance for patients with head and neck cancers.
The inauguration was part of ‘SPANDAN: Cancer, Healing and Beyond’, an awareness programme organised by the department of head and neck surgery to highlight the importance of early detection, rehabilitation and survivor support.
SGPGIMS director Prof R K Dhiman said early diagnosis, public awareness and a multidisciplinary approach remained the key to improving outcomes in head and neck cancers.
On the occasion, cancer survivors were presented roses in recognition of their resilience. During a session titled “Voices of Hope”, survivors shared their experiences of diagnosis, treatment and recovery, underscoring the importance of timely medical intervention.
Experts from head and neck surgery, radiotherapy, plastic surgery and psychiatry discussed various aspects of cancer care, while dieticians counselled patients on nutritional support during and after treatment. The programme concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session with patients.
