Amravati: Prof Aditi Pohre formally joined the Congress party on Thursday at Tilak Bhavan, the Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee headquarters in Mumbai, in the presence of Sirvella Prasad, AICC in-charge for Maharashtra.Her induction comes just weeks ahead of the Oct 23 election to the Amravati Division Teachers’ Constituency of the Maharashtra Legislative Council and is being seen in party circles as a clear indication that she is likely to be the Congress nominee from the seat. An official announcement is expected in the coming days.Pohre was welcomed into the party by MPCC president Harshavardhan Sapkal, AICC general secretary and MP Mukul Wasnik, Congress legislature party leader Vijay Wadettiwar, Congress group leader in the Legislative Council Satej alias Bunty Patil, Rajni Patil, AICC general secretaries Avinash Pande and BM Sandeep, Congress Working Committee member Balasaheb Thorat, Naseem Khan, adv Yashomati Thakur, MPs Praniti Shinde, Kalyan Kale and Pratibha Dhanorkar, former minister Vishwajeet Kadam, Maharashtra Mahila Congress president Sandhya Sawwalakhe, Maharashtra Youth Congress president Shivraj More, AICC secretaries UB Vyankatesh, Rehana Chisti and Sachin Sawant, MPCC vice president (Organisation & Administration) adv Ganesh Patil, senior vice president Mohan Joshi, general secretary Sandesh Kondvilkar, and senior spokespersons Atul Londhe and Gopal Tiwari, among others.Aditi Pohre is the daughter of former minister Harshavardhan Deshmukh, president of Shri Shivaji Education Society, Amravati, and daughter-in-law of senior journalist Prakash Pohare.An academician with a strong educational background, she holds an ME in Structural Design from Govt College of Engineering, Amravati, and an MA in Psychology from IGNOU, both with distinction.With the election nearing, Pohre has already kick-started her campaign. Her formal entry into the Congress is expected to give further momentum to her outreach, particularly if she is declared the party’s official candidate.As part of her campaign, the Congress has called a workers’ meet at Kshitij Mangal Karyalaya on Oct 4, which is likely to be attended by senior party leaders.The Amravati Division Teachers’ Constituency is shaping up to be a keenly contested battle, with all major parties in the process of finalising their candidates. The Congress is expected to announce its nominee shortly.
