Jaipur: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Wednesday caught Kaushal Kumawat, assistant town planner of Nagaur Municipal Council, red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4 lakh. As the amount was substantial, the ACB arranged for dummy notes as part of the trap.Smita Srivastava, additional director general (ADG) of ACB, said that the agency received a complaint alleging that Kumawat demanded Rs 5 lakh to provide a favourable technical report for a warehouse and cold storage registered in the complainant’s nephew’s name. “We verified the demand and found it to be genuine. During the verification process, the suspect officer agreed to accept a reduced amount of Rs 4 lakh,” said the officer.Acting on this, a trap was laid. The team, led by the additional superintendent of police, Kalpana Solanki, caught Kumawat in the act. Of the Rs 4 lakh, Rs 20,000 was real currency, and the remaining Rs 3,80,000 was in dummy notes. ACB has initiated proceedings under the Prevention of Corruption Act. Further investigation is in progress. TNN
