Srinagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday trapped and arrested two police officers in connection with an alleged bribery case involving a ₹15,000 demand for closing a police case.
According to the ACB, it received a written complaint alleging that PSI Karanjeet Singh, the investigating officer in FIR No. 65/2026 registered at Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh, Srinagar, had allegedly demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for closing the case as “Not Admitted” between the parties.
The complaint further alleged that the demand was made through his alleged accomplice, Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat of Police Station Ram Munshi Bagh.
Following the complaint, the ACB conducted a verification, which prima facie established the allegations regarding the demand for illegal gratification. Subsequently, Case FIR No. 12/2026 was registered at Police Station ACB Srinagar under Sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Section 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the investigation, the ACB constituted a trap team. The team allegedly caught Sub-Inspector Ravi Jee Bhat red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹15,000 from the complainant on behalf of PSI Karanjeet Singh.
The bribe amount was recovered from Bhat’s possession in the presence of independent witnesses. He was subsequently taken into custody in accordance with law.
The ACB said PSI Karanjeet Singh, who was allegedly involved in the demand, was subsequently arrested by the Bureau.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
