Mysuru: The 60-year-old Abhimanyu, which carries the golden howdah in Mysuru Dasara procession, has broken the tip of his left tusk while being in musth two weeks ago. However, he is fit and fine.Nagarahole Tiger Reserve director PA Seema confirmed that Abhimanyu has broken its left tusk, and that the matter has been informed to higher-ups in Bengaluru. He was in musth, and during the time, while pressing its tusk against a tree, a part of it came off. The incident happened while he was at Dubare Elephant Camp in Kodagu district.Abhimanyu is healthy despite losing the part of the tusk, which is common among tuskers, the official informed, adding that currently he is on a mission to rescue a tiger holed up outside the Bandipur Tiger Reserve.Sources claimed that Abhimanyu has been counted out of all work at the camp for the last one year, because he has a bigger responsibility of carrying golden howdah this year too. So far, he carried howdah during Mysuru Dasara procession five times since 2020. Breaking its tusk hasn’t impacted his health, as veterinarians have confirmed he hasn’t suffered any serious injuries.
