Waste disposal should be done scientifically, Justice Phanindra said

Madikeri: Upa Lokayukta Justice KN Phanindra on Friday reprimanded officials after seeing the chaos at the garbage disposal unit and market in Kodagu district headquarters of Madikeri. He also instructed the officials to register a case against the staff concerned and initiate action.At 7am, amid foggy weather and drizzle, Justice Phanindra went to the garbage disposal unit near Stonehill in the city, and expressed his dissatisfaction. “Waste disposal should be done scientifically. The lack of willpower of the officials led to the problem,” he said and criticised the municipal officials and KSPCB officials. “Experts should be consulted on the scientific disposal of waste and action should be taken based on their feedback,” he said and sought an action-taken report.The Upa Lokayukta visited the city market complex and took the officials to task after seeing the market’s condition. He also received a barrage of complaints from the traders. “The market gets waterlogged during the rainy season, and it is not possible to do business. There is no proper drainage system, which has led to uncleanliness,” they complained.He also visited the govt bus stand and instructed officials to install CCTV cameras, drinking water units and clocks. During the visit, Kodagu DC SJ Somashekar, legal services authority member secretary Shubha, district SP Bindu Mani, ZP CEO Anand Prakash Meena, Madikeri deputy conservator of forests Abhishek, assistant commissioner Nitin Chakki were present.
