Dibrugarh: Aasu activists protested in Dibrugarh on Thursday against rising prices of essential commodities.The protest, part of Aasu’s statewide agitation, began at its office and ended at the Dibrugarh district commissioner’s office. Activists marched, raising slogans and demanding govt intervention.Aasu said the rising cost of food and other essentials was burdening consumers, particularly low- and middle-income families. It called for steps to keep commodities affordable, strengthen market monitoring and act against illegal practices contributing to abnormal price increases.“Our protest is against the continuous rise in the prices of essential commodities, which has made it increasingly difficult for common people to manage their household expenses. The administration must take immediate and effective steps to provide relief to consumers,” Aasu Dibrugarh district president Rupjyoti Borthakur said.It demanded market inspections, strict enforcement and action against traders exploiting consumers.“The govt and administration cannot remain indifferent when the prices of necessities continue to rise. Concrete measures are needed to control the situation and protect the interests of consumers,” Aasu Dibrugarh district general secretary Bitupan Gogoi said.Aasu later submitted a memorandum seeking price regulation, market monitoring and relief for people affected by rising costs.
