During Ramadan, parts of Bengaluru transform into vibrant food streets where the aroma of sizzling kebabs, slow-cooked haleem and freshly baked breads fills the air. From Shivajinagar to Frazer Town and Koramangala to Mosque Road, the city’s Ramadan bazaars have become a much-anticipated annual food trail for both locals and visitors. For many Bengalureans, exploring these food streets has turned into a weekend ritual — walking through bustling lanes, sampling small bites from multiple stalls and ending the night with a cup of hot chai. “Ramadan evenings in Bengaluru have their own energy. People come not just for the food but for the atmosphere — the lights, the crowds and the sense of community,” says techie Azeem Khan.‘Try small portions to explore more’Visitors at the food streets can try classics like seekh kebabs, pathar ka gosht, keema samosas and rich bowls of haleem simmered for hours. Art curator Sushma Rao says the key is to pace yourself. “Don’t go in expecting a full meal at the first stop. Ramadan food trails are best enjoyed when you try small portions from different stalls — kebabs here, phirni there, and maybe a shawarma in between,” she says.‘Desserts are a big part of this festivity’Apart from all main dishes, Ramadan food streets are also known for its mix of traditional dishes and dessert counters. You’ll find everything from malpua and phirni to falooda and rose-milk drinks. “Desserts are a big part of the Ramadan food culture here. Many people come specifically for the sweets that appear only during this time of year, like Shahi Tukda and Phirni,” says restaurateur Imran, who has been part of the local food scene for years.Go with a plan, along with a group to explore new placesFood lovers say the best way to explore is to arrive a bit before Iftar, as it gets crowded right after, around 5 pm, when the streets begin to get busy but before the late-night rush. “Ramadan food trails are about exploration.
