Prayargaj: The Kaushambi Police on Friday strengthened its crime-fighting arsenal with the induction of Leo, the district’s first-tracker dog. The 1.5-year-old male Labrador arrived from the Border Security Force‘s National Training Centre for Dogs in Takenpur, Gwalior, after completing an intensive nine-month training programme—nearly twice the duration of training imparted to most sniffer dogs. Leo is expected to play a crucial role in solving crimes, tracking suspects, locating evidence and searching for missing persons. Police officials said his induction would significantly enhance the district’s scientific investigation capabilities and strengthen overall policing by enabling quicker and more effective responses to criminal cases.A senior police officer said tracker dogs are specially trained to follow human scent trails and can pursue a trail ranging from short distances to several miles. “German Shepherds and Labradors are among the world’s top tracking breeds, with the Bloodhound ranking first. Labradors are particularly known for using their tracking abilities in a calm and controlled manner,” the officer said.He added, “The tracker dog will help the police gather scientific evidence against criminals and strengthen investigations into crime.”
