The auditorium at Bharatendu Natya Akademi, Gomti Nagar, was packed with theatre lovers, parents and art enthusiasts as participants of a workshop staged Meera: Ek Darpan, a play on the life of 16th-century saint-poet Meera Bai. Directed by Jyoti Narayan Nath, the production marked the workshop’s culmination, giving budding actors a platform to showcase the skills they had developed over weeks of training before a live audience.

The production combined theatre, dance, music and poetry to tell the story of Meera’s unwavering devotion to Lord Krishna and the challenges she faced for choosing the path of faith over social norms. The play took the audience through different stages of her life, from her childhood devotion to her journey as one of the most revered voices. Jyoti, the director of the play, shared, “ The young performers held the audience’s attention with confident performances and a great dialogue delivery.”— Amina Ashraf
