Budgam, Oct 16: The construction of a new bridge in Beerwah town of central Kashmir’s Budgam district has been completed following repeated reports by Rising Kashmir highlighting the long-pending demand and the difficulties faced by local residents.
The completion of the bridge has brought relief to people in Beerwah and neighbouring villages, who had been seeking improved road connectivity and a lasting solution to the traffic congestion in the town.
Through a series of reports, Rising Kashmir highlighted the issue and brought it to the attention of the concerned authorities, stressing the need to complete the much needed infrastructure project.
Syed Lateef Ahmad, a resident of Sadipora Beerwah, expressed gratitude to the Jammu and Kashmir Government for approving the project and ensuring its completion within a relatively short period.
“We are thankful to the Jammu and Kashmir Government for approving the bridge and completing the work in a short span of time. The Roads and Buildings (R&B) Department Beerwah and the concerned contractor have completed the construction within 10 months,” Ahmad told the Rising Kashmir
He said that the bridge would improve road connectivity between different areas of Beerwah and the rest of Budgam district, besides facilitating travel to popular tourist destinations such as Tosamaidan, Doodhpathri and Gulmarg.
Ahmad also thanked the Rising Kashmir for repeatedly highlighting the issue and bringing the concerns of the local population to the notice of the government.
He said the construction of the bridge had been a long-standing demand of residents from several villages in Beerwah tehsil, many of whom depend on the town for their daily commute and other essential activities.
“The new bridge will provide considerable relief to the people. The old bridge had become a major cause of traffic congestion in Beerwah town. Once the new bridge is opened to traffic, expected next week, we hope the problem of traffic jams in the main town will be reduced significantly,” he said.
Ahmad added that the R&B Department was also carrying out macadamisation work on the bridge ahead of its opening to traffic.
Local residents have welcomed the completion of the project and expressed hope that the new infrastructure would improve traffic movement and make travel more convenient for commuters.
They also thanked Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for addressing their long-pending demand.
An official of the R&B Department said the bridge will reopen for the traffic in the coming week.
