Dhanbad: Nearly nine years after the murder of Ranjay Singh, a close aide of former Dhanbad mayor Sanjeev Singh, a local court on Saturday acquitted Harsh Singh and Nand Kishore Singh alias Mama, giving them the benefit of doubt.District and sessions judge Durgesh Chandra Awasthi pronounced the verdict in the case related to Ranjay’s murder and the alleged attempt on the life of Raja Yadav. The court acquitted both accused after a prolonged trial.Ranjay was shot dead on Jan 29, 2017, in Chanakya Nagar under Saraidhela police station limits. According to the prosecution, he was travelling from his flat towards Singh Mansion while carrying a milk container.The prosecution said two motorcycle-borne assailants, who were allegedly lying in wait near the house of Rameshwar Tiwari, opened fire on Ranjay. He suffered serious bullet injuries and was taken to Central Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.Raja, who was travelling with Ranjay on a scooter, escaped the attack. His statement formed the basis of the FIR.Nand Kishore had been in jail since 2018.Senior advocate Samar Srivastava, who appeared with advocates Ayush Srivastava and Siddharth Sharma, said, “The court has considered them innocent on the basis of the evidence on record.”
