Ara: Ara MP Sudama Prasad has demanded immediate relief, rehabilitation and compensation for flood victims across Bihar, including Rs 25,000 per acre for sharecropper farmers whose crops were damaged.Prasad met CM Samrat Choudhary on Thursday and submitted a 22-point memorandum seeking relief and rehabilitation, compensation for crop losses and reconstruction of flood-damaged infrastructure. Paliganj MLA Sandeep Saurabh was also present. Prasad handed over a list of people who died in the floods and sought compensation for their dependents.In his memorandum, Prasad said the September floods had caused extensive damage to lives, agriculture, houses, roads, bridges, schools and other public infrastructure in Patna, Buxar, Bhagalpur, Bhojpur and several other districts. Thousands of poor families were facing shortages of food, shelter and livelihood, besides difficulties in transportation, he said.He demanded one quintal of foodgrains and Rs 10,000 in immediate assistance for every flood-affected poor family, besides reconstruction of fully or partially damaged houses under the chief minister’s housing scheme.Prasad also sought crop-loss compensation for sharecroppers with Rs 25,000 per acre for affected farmers, and a transparent assessment of damage at village and panchayat levels.He demanded Rs 10 lakh for dependents of those who died after drowning and a special survey to establish the actual number of deaths.For Bhojpur, Prasad said more than 25 people had died in the floods and submitted their names to the CM. He sought inclusion of genuine flood-hit families left out of the Sampurti portal relief list and demanded flood-affected status for Barhara, Shahpur, Bihiya and Ara blocks.
