Kanpur: A 26-year-old man was allegedly beaten to death near his home in Gangapur Colony under the Sen Paschim Para police station area in Kanpur late Monday. The victim, identified as Mohammad Saif, allegedly told his family while being taken to hospital that he had been assaulted by 8 to 10 men with plastic pipes. Police have launched an investigation, with forensic teams collecting evidence and the body sent for postmortem.Family members alleged that due to ill health, Saif went to Meraj Baba’s mazar to seek blessings but did not return throughout the night.Around 5 am on Tuesday, two people living near the intersection informed the family that Saif was lying in a semi-conscious condition in a lane near the mazar. The family rushed him to a hospital in an ambulance, where doctors declared him dead during treatment.The deceased’s elder brother, Mohammad Rizwan, alleged that while being taken to the hospital, Saif said that 8 to 10 people had brutally beaten him with plastic pipes, leaving him critically injured.ACP, Ghatampur, Krishnakant Yadav, said that upon receiving the information, police reached the spot. During the investigation, the young man’s body was found under the jurisdiction of Naubasta Police Station.An investigation is underway to find the motive behind the attack, he added.
