Kanpur: Two men, posing as CBI officers, stole jewellery worth Rs 13 lakh from a goldsmith from Panki when they pretended to check his bag on Birhana Road in Nayaganj on Thursday evening, police said. According to police, the victim, Avnish Mishra, owner of Trimurti Jewellers in Panki, had gone to Nayaganj with one of his employees for some business related work.On their way back, the duo was apprehended by two individuals wearing caps who identified themselves as CBI officers and started searching the victim’s bag.The accused also allegedly beat his employee and fled with the bag when the employee, out of fear, entered a jewellery shop.The bag, according to the victim, contained two gold necklaces, four bangles and one nose ring worth Rs 13 lakh.According to Pheelkhana police station in-charge Ajay Mishra, a written complaint was received and CCTV footage from all cameras installed near the incident site was being reviewed. After the victim filed a complaint, two separate police teams began scanning CCTV camera footage. “The crooks will be in police net soon,” Mishra added.
