Noida: A quick ride to the market without a helmet, a hurried sprint past the speed limit, a car left carelessly in a no-parking zone — data compiled by the traffic department shows that violations across Noida and Greater Noida are mostly habitual, and, in several categories, they are worsening.Between Jan and May 15, traffic police issued more than 11.84 lakh challans, averaging 8,741 per day. Speeding, illegal parking and riding without helmets were among the most common offences recorded during the period.Helmet non-compliance led the tally by a wide margin. Enforcement teams booked 5,49,553 motorists for riding without helmets, nearly half of all challans issued in the period, underscoring what officials describe as a persistent failure to internalise basic road safety norms.

DCP (traffic) Abhay Kumar Mishra said licences of repeat offenders would be suspended, and if violations continued even after suspension, authorities would recommend cancellation.Speeding ranked second, with 1,08,499 challans issued against vehicles exceeding prescribed limits. Illegal parking followed closely at 1,06,688 challans — violations that officials say routinely snarl traffic and raise accident risk on busy arterial roads. Illegal parking has been particularly rampant around Sector 18 and Atta Market, Captain Vijayant Thapar Marg, Sector 18 metro station–Botanical Garden corridor, Logix Mall in Sector 32, Brahmaputra and Ganga shopping complexes in Sector 27, Sector 104 market, and the Pari Chowk–Jagat Farm belt in Greater Noida.Wrong-side driving drew 88,417 challans, while 33,145 motorists were penalised for jumping red lights.The department also booked motorists for driving without insurance, using mobile phones while driving, triple riding, defective number plates, dangerous driving and pollution-related offences. Enforcement has increasingly leaned on technology, including CCTV surveillance and automated detection systems feeding directly into e-challan generation, officials said.Two-wheelers accounted for the largest share of challans, followed by cars and other light motor vehicles.The current pace tracks against a broader trend. Noida traffic police issued 28.9 lakh challans in all of 2025 — up from 27.9 lakh the previous year. Helmet violations alone accounted for over 14 lakh challans last year, against more than 17 lakh in 2024. Seatbelt violations also declined, falling to 43,269 in 2025 from 58,101 in 2024. But speeding and dangerous driving moved in the opposite direction, recording year-on-year increases that officials say warrant closer attention.No-parking violations stood at 2.7 lakh last year and wrong-side driving at 2.2 lakh — figures that, set against the current enforcement pace, suggest little ground has been recovered.Traffic police said drives will continue through the year, with particular focus on offences directly linked to road fatalities. Motorists have been urged to wear helmets and seatbelts, observe speed limits and avoid signal-jumping and wrong-side driving.
