GURGAON: Heavy overnight rain left several parts of Gurgaon waterlogged on Thursday morning, submerging roads, stranding vehicles and disrupting traffic across key stretches of the city, even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of more rain during the morning hours.According to the district administration’s rainfall report for the 24-hour period ending 8am on Thursday, Sohna recorded the highest rainfall at 110 mm, followed by Gurgaon tehsil (97 mm), Kadipur (74 mm), Harsaru (74 mm), Wazirabad (55 mm) and Manesar (54 mm). Lower rainfall was recorded in Badshahpur (13 mm), Farukhnagar (7 mm) and Pataudi (6 mm).IMD data showed Gurgaon’s minimum temperature settled at 24.1 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning. The department’s automatic weather station at NorthCap University recorded 57 mm rainfall in the 24 hours ending 8.30am.Residents said it had been raining continuously since around 2am, with showers continuing till at least 8.30am. Commuters faced inundated with rainwater, forcing vehicles to crawl through flooded stretches while several two wheelers and cars appeared stranded.Among the worst hit locations were the road outside Ansal, the main dividing road opposite AIPL Joy Street in Sector 67 and Bestech in Sector 66 leading towards Sohna Road, and the HUDA City Centre area, where residents reported severe waterlogging.The IMD’s tehsil level nowcast, issued at 6.38am and valid till 9.38am on Thursday, forecast thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and moderate rain over parts of Haryana, including Gurgaon and Sohna. The weather office also warned of gusty winds of 30-40 kmph in some areas.The latest spell of rain once again brought into focus Gurgaon’s recurring monsoon woes. Submerged roads and stranded vehicles have become a familiar sight after heavy rainfall, with commuters frequently facing long traffic snarls and delays.Residents also pointed to piles of garbage, roadside waste and burning dumps across parts of the city, saying poor civic maintenance continues to compound the problems during the monsoon.
