Prayagraj: A criminal was injured and arrested along with his eight accomplices after an encounter with police in Fatehpur district on Sunday night. The police also seized three SUVs, 10 mobiles, six goats, Rs 58,100 cash, one country-made pistol of 0.315 bore along with two live cartridges and one used cartridge from their possession.The injured criminal, Lavlesh Nishad (26) of Hamirpur, was admitted to the district hospital. He has six criminal cases pending against him. Other arrested criminals were —Raj Nishad of Kanpur Dehat, Suraj of Hamirpur, Arvind Nishad of Kanpur, Jitendra of Katri, Raman Pandey of Kanpur, Amit Raj of Hamirpur, Rinku of Hamirpur, and Pankaj Sonkar of Kanpyur Dehat. On a tip-off, Kalyanpur police, intercepted three SUVs near Guneer crossing, said police. The SUV occupants opened fire. The cops retaliated, leaving one of them injured. The police arrested nine criminals. The arrested criminals are members of an inter-district cattle smuggling gang active in Hamirpur, Kanpur Dehat, Kanpur, Fatehpur and adjoining districts, said police.
