Lucknow: The state govt said that it is now equipped to treat around 85% of wastewater generated in the state daily. Official figures peg wastewater generation under just urban local bodies at 5,500 million litres per day (MLD), and govt said it is treating over 4,500 MLD currently. To ensure zero wastage, govt also set itself a target of reusing 100% of treated water by 2035.

“The second phase of the Namami Gange Mission provided renewed strength to the state’s sewerage system. Under this, 74 sewerage treatment projects were approved in the state out of which 41 were completed and are operational.” said a govt spokesperson. Currently, there are 155 STPs across the state.The official said a policy is now being prepared for the safe reuse of treated water. The plan will be implemented in three phases. This will include use of treated wastewater by municipal bodies for irrigation of parks, road cleaning and in public gardens. TNN
