Sultanpur Lodhi: An 8-year-old boy from a migrant family was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in Gillan village near Sultanpur Lodhi on Friday. The child, Suraj Kumar, had stepped out around noon to relieve himself near the house where his family was staying when the dogs attacked him.Hearing his screams, his mother and neighbours rushed to help, but the dogs continued biting him and inflicted severe injuries on his head, abdomen, arms and legs. He was pulled out after a struggle and taken to the civil hospital in Sultanpur Lodhi. Dr Akashdeep Sharma, who attended the victim in the emergency ward of the civil hospital, said apart from serious injuries on his body, his head was badly lacerated. He was referred to the civil hospital in Jalandhar due to his critical condition but succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.This is the second fatal dog attack in the area within a week. On February 24, around 20 stray dogs mauled a 32-year-old woman, Pari Devi, to death in nearby Passan Kadim village when she had gone to graze cattle. Another woman was also injured in the same village.
