GURGAON: An eight-year-old boy was crushed to death under a road roller at a cricket academy in Kakrola in IMT Manesar on Friday after he and three other children climbed onto the unattended machine and one of them accidentally switched it on.The boy was playing with his elder brother Neel and two other children around 1pm when the accident occurred. The roller had been kept at the academy to level the cricket pitch and ground.Police said the four children climbed onto the machine while playing. After its miniature circuit breaker (MCB) was accidentally switched on, the roller began moving. With nobody supervising the equipment, the children moved it back and forth.While doing this, the boy fell in front of the machine and came under its wheels. He suffered injuries to the head and died before he could be wheeled into a hospital.The other three children, including Neel, left the academy after the accident. Neel reached home and told his family that the boy was injured on the ground. Unaware of what had happened, relatives began searching for him.Players arriving at the academy later found him lying in front of the roller, oozing blood. They arranged a vehicle and rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.The family learnt about the boy’s death nearly an hour after the accident. They said the child had remained injured on the ground for a considerable time before being found.The family, originally from Nalanda district in Bihar, has lived in the NCR city for around two decades and has seven children.An officer at Kherki Daula police station said the family neither alleged negligence nor suspected foul play, which is why a case hadn’t been registered. Police conducted inquest proceedings under Section 194 of the BNSS, based on the family’s written statement.The body was handed over after an autopsy on Friday.
