As the monsoon season approaches, Patna is proactively tackling flooding with the inauguration of eight advanced drainage pumping stations. These high-tech solutions are specifically designed for low-lying regions to address the long-standing challenges of waterlogging.

Patna: The Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (BUIDCO) has finalised comprehensive preparations across Patna’s urban areas to ensure swift drainage and smooth water flow during the upcoming monsoon season. As part of these efforts, eight state-of-the-art drainage pumping stations (DPS) have been constructed at strategic and low-lying areas.Buidco MD Animesh Kumar Parashar said the new DPS are expected to play a crucial role in tackling waterlogging problems that have long plagued the city during heavy rains. “All the newly built pumping stations, equipped with varying capacities, are now fully ready. They will be operationalised before the monsoon sets in, providing much-needed relief from water accumulation in different parts of the city, including areas from Danapur to Patna City and along the Bypass corridor,” he said. The key locations where the DPS have been established include Rajiv Nagar, Digha Canal, Danapur (Anand Bazar), TV Tower, Dasharatha, Nandlal Chapra, Bakri Bazar (Bazar Samiti), and Prem Kunj (Pahari). Each of these stations features high-capacity dewatering pumps designed with the latest technology. These powerful pumps are capable of rapidly removing large volumes of water, ensuring that roads and lanes do not remain submerged even after intense rainfall.Parashar was personally monitoring the progress of the newly built DPS on a regular basis and other arrangements for monsoon preparedness in the city. He has issued strict instructions to all departments concerned to complete every assigned task within the stipulated timelines so that Patna residents can enjoy the monsoon season without the recurring problem of waterlogging.Buidco was already operating 56 permanent and 35 temporary drainage pumping stations in the city. The addition of eight new, high-tech pumping stations will significantly strengthen the overall drainage network of Patna, offering substantial relief to citizens during the coming rainy season.
