Shillong: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma have distributed land ‘pattas’ (land deeds, or property ownership certificates) to 754 households across eight localities across Tura town in West Garo Hills district.After distributing the land pattas to eligible families of Chinap A’slang in Tura on Thursday, the CM described the initiative as a “significant milestone” and an important step towards “resolving the decades-long” issue of general administration department (GAD) land occupation in the Tura Town area.He said the land ownership documents would provide legal security to beneficiaries and help access bank loans, obtain necessary certificates and avail themselves of various govt schemes and public services. “The families who received the document can find security especially in availing loans, necessary certifications, govt schemes and services, etc,” he said.“From just 42 households depositing the required premium in Dec 2025, the number has now grown to 210, with 127 land pattas ready for handover,” the CM said. “In Chinap A’slang alone out of 93 households, 25 have completed their deposit and have received the documents on Thursday),” he said.The state govt said the initiative was part of its ongoing efforts to provide legal land ownership and resolve long-pending land tenure issues in the Tura town area.
