Kanpur: Police have filed a nearly 700-page chargesheet against six people, including Baba Biryani operator Mukhtar Ahmad, alias Baba Biryani, and his son Mahfooz, in connection with an alleged Rs 2.75-crore fraud involving a leather trader from Jajmau.The chargesheet stems from a complaint alleging that the accused induced the trader to supply raw leather on credit, failed to clear the dues and later threatened him when he demanded payment.Jajmau leather trader Shamsher Alam lodged an FIR at Jajmau police station in Oct 2025. According to the complaint, Mukhtar introduced him to Goodwill Tanners owner Rais Alam Lari and his sons and advised him to supply raw leather to their firm.Acting on Mukhtar’s advice, Alam supplied raw leather to Goodwill Tanners between 2016 and 2024. He alleged that he supplied material worth about Rs 2.86 crore, but the company never paid him. During this period, he also claimed to have borne GST and other taxes related to the transactions.According to the complaint, whenever Alam demanded his dues, the accused allegedly threatened to kill him. He further alleged that after the factory was sold, he approached Mukhtar on Oct 17 last year, when Mukhtar and his son Mahfooz allegedly threatened to implicate him in a false criminal case.Jajmau police station SHO Sanjay Pandey said chargesheet was filed last week against six accused, including Mukhtar, his son and Goodwill Tanners owner Rais Alam Lari.
