Jhansi: Seven people, including two children aged 6 and 8 and three women, had a harrowing time after they were trapped for over an hour in a lift at Virangana Laxmibai Jhansi railway station in Jhansi on Saturday afternoon after a bag strap got stuck between the doors. They were rescued through the emergency exit.According to reports, all seven people, including two women ticket examiners, took the lift from the overhead bridge to reach platforms 4 and 5. When one person’s bag strap got stuck between the doors, he tried to pull it out. The lift’s sensors activated and the doors jammed shut.After an emergency alert, senior rail officials, including DRM Nandish Shukla and station director Seema Tiwari, along with GRP and RPF personnel, reached the spot. After hectic efforts, all occupants were brought out from the exit on the ceiling of the lift with the help of a ladder. No one was injured in the operation.According to reports, seven people, including two women ticket examiners, entered the lift from the overhead bridge to reach platforms 4 and 5. When he tried to pull it free, the lift’s sensors were triggered and the doors jammed shut.Recalling the ordeal, a woman passenger who was trapped inside said she had to board a train for Gwalior but missed it. “I panicked when the light started blinking, but felt relieved after we were evacuated,” she said.NCR Jhansi division PRO Manoj Kumar Singh said, “The lift’s sensor was triggered because a strap got stuck in the doors. All occupants were rescued safely and underwent medical examinations as a precautionary measure.”
