Ferozepur: In a breakthrough against trans-border drug trafficking, Ferozepur police apprehended a suspect after a week-long intelligence-led and technical operation and recovered over 6kg heroin.Ferozepur SSP Bhupinder Singh said acting on a tip-off, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) staff intrecepted a suspicious person while checking vehicles near the Ferozepur-Mallanwala road. He said during the search, 6.038 kg heroin was recovered from the suspect, which was allegedly smuggled through a drone.

The accused was identified as Jaswinder Singh (29), a resident of Ferozepur district, who was out on bail. A case under sections 21, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered. The SSP said the accused has a criminal background and several cases are already registered against him, including those under the BNS, NDPS Act, and Arms Act at Ghal Khurd and Ferozepur City police stations, and under the Arms Act and NDPS Act at Mohali. He said the police initiated further investigation to ascertain the source of the recovered contraband and to identify other members of the drug supply network.
