T’puram: A 66-year-old man was killed after being hit by a train near Ayanthi Bridge in Varkala on Friday afternoon.The deceased was identified as Vijayakumar (66) of Nedumkandam, Varkala. Police said he was attempting to cross the railway track when a train heading towards Thiruvananthapuram struck him near the bridge.According to police, Vijayakumar had left his residence around noon after informing family members. The circumstances leading to the incident are under investigation.Locals and authorities reached the spot following the accident. The body was later shifted to the medical college hospital for postmortem examination.Police registered a case under the provisions related to unnatural death and began a probe. Further details are awaited.Vijayakumar is survived by his wife, Beena, a painter by profession and member of 11th ward of Vettur panchayat.
