Kanpur: About 50,000 residents have been affected and water has entered several houses after continuous rain worsened waterlogging in Kanpur’s Makdikhheda area.The emergence of baby crocodiles over the past two days has also caused panic among residents.Kanpur municipal commissioner Arpit Upadhyay inspected Makdikhheda, Khyaura and nearby areas on Thursday morning, reviewing drainage arrangements and directing officials to maintain pumping operations, monitor waterlogged localities and deploy additional resources.During the inspection, Upadhyay checked two pumps installed at NRI City and sought details about their operational status. Water was also found accumulated around Makdikhheda kaccha nala. He said both pumps were running continuously and Nagar Nigam would continue pumping to reduce waterlogging.Makdikhheda nala, stretching about 3.5 km from near DPS School on Bithoor Road to NRI City on Mainavati Marg, is damaged and choked at several places. Residents alleged that despite repeated complaints, cleaning of the nullah had been left incomplete before the rains.
