Gandhinagar: State govt said on Tuesday that Gujarat had cut carbon emissions by 49.8 million tonnes during 2025-26, a step towards its net-zero goal.The state also generated a record 67,655 million units of electricity from renewable sources in the same period, govt said.A key driver behind this has been the rapid expansion of solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources in Gujarat’s energy sector, the statement added.Gujarat has prevented a cumulative 179 million tonnes of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere over the last five years. The state emits about 442 million tonnes of greenhouse gases annually, meaning the five-year reduction amounts to nearly 40% of one year’s total emissions, govt said.
