Hazaribag: A four-year-old boy died after being run over by a tractor in Kolhua village under Kolhuakala panchayat in Barhi block on Saturday. The deceased was identified as Satyam Kumar.Locals informed the police that the tractor was returning after unloading sand. Satyam, who was near the road, suddenly came under its wheels and died on the spot. The incident took place around 6 am. The driver fled the scene with the vehicle.Vinod Kumar, the officer-in-charge of Barhi police station, said, “We are searching for the killer tractor and its driver. Police are awaiting for a complaint to lodge an FIR.”Following Satyam’s death, locals claimed that illegal sand mining had become rampant in Kolhuakala and Bhandaro panchayat areas. Hundreds of tractors barrel down the roads from dawn till dusk, increasing risk of accidents.Chandrashekhar Kunal, circle officer of Barhi, said they regularly take action against illegal sand mining and those involved in it. Mines Inspector Satyendra Soren said, “The administration is keeping a close watch on illegal sand extraction and transport in the area. People can also inform the administration if they notice any illegal sand mining or transportation.”
