JHAJJAR: Four people died in Haryana’s Jhajjar district on Monday after entering a well to rescue a calf, with police suspecting toxic gas caused the deaths.The incident took place in Munimpur village, where a calf had fallen into a well. According to preliminary information, the men entered the well one after another in an attempt to rescue the animal. They allegedly lost consciousness after being exposed to suspected toxic gas trapped inside the confined space and were unable to come out.The deceased were identified as Dalbir (40), son of Phool Singh; Narendra (38), son of Satyavan; Monu (36), son of Rajbir — all residents of Munimpur village — and Ramu (40), a migrant worker from Kamboj Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.Police Commissioner Dr Rajshree reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and supervised the rescue operation. She said legal proceedings had been initiated and further action was being taken as per established procedures.During the rescue operation, Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar also entered the well to save those trapped. He experienced severe breathing difficulties, apparently due to exposure to the same hazardous atmosphere, and was shifted to a private hospital. Police said his condition is now stable.Authorities suspect toxic gas inside the well led to the deaths. The exact cause, however, will be confirmed after the post-mortem examination and the findings of the ongoing investigation.
