Hassan: Hassan district administration has taken serious note of the discovery of partially burnt voter ID cards, Aadhaar cards, PAN cards and driving licences near a lodge in Sakleshpur town and ordered a police investigation.Following media reports, Hassan deputy commissioner KS Latha Kumari directed assistant commissioner Hullumani Thimmanna to inspect the spot immediately and submit a report. Thimmanna, accompanied by police personnel and officials, inspected the spot.Speaking to reporters, Thimmanna said the discovery of important identity documents in a burnt condition had been taken seriously. A total of 38 documents were recovered during the inspection, including 26 voter ID cards. The voter ID cards belonged to different districts, including Yadgir and Mandya. Around 30 to 40 Aadhaar cards were also found, he said.According to the preliminary assessment, the documents did not appear to be connected with special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Instead, they may belong to migrant workers employed in coffee plantations across the Malnad region, many of whom reside in workers’ quarters on plantation premises, Thimmanna said. However, the circumstances under which the documents reached the spot, who burnt them and the motive behind the incident remain unclear. Thimmanna said these aspects could be established only through a detailed investigation.Thimmanna, who also serves as the electoral registration officer, said he had instructed police to register an FIR at the local police station and conduct a comprehensive investigation. He would submit a report to the DC.The police investigation is expected to establish the origin of the documents, how they came to be discarded, and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
