Vadodara: The faculty of fine arts at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda has unveiled Shifting Practices 2026, an exhibition showcasing recent works by 33 faculty members across generations, reflecting the evolving ethos of the Baroda School of Art.The exhibition presents a collective narrative of continuity and change within one of India’s most influential art movements.Established in 1950, the Baroda School of Art is known for its unique synthesis of Indian artistic traditions and Western modernist approaches. Over the decades, it has produced renowned artists such as Ghulam Mohammed Sheikh, Nasreen Mohamedi, Bhupen Khakhar, Jyoti Bhatt, Shanti Dave, Jayant Parikh and Ratan Parimoo.The exhibition features works by artists including Ajay Kanwal, Indrapramit Roy, Kashyap Parikh, Krupa P. Mistry, Mansoor Ali, Rita Sodha, Rutvij Mistry, Vaishnavi Sharma and Yash Desai, among others, reflecting a wide range of mediums and thematic explorations.Shifting Practices 2026 was inaugurated on Saturday by Padma Shri Ratan Parimoo, eminent art historian and former dean of the faculty. On display at the faculty’s exhibition hall till Monday, the exhibition offers not just a display of artworks but a broader reflection on artistic innovation, pedagogy and cultural continuity within the Baroda School.
