Udupi: A well-cleaning operation in Ashwathapura near Karkala turned dramatic on Sunday, after three men were caught inside a 30-ft-deep well, prompting a swift rescue operation by personnel from the department of fire and emergency services.According to Karkala fire station officer Albert Monis, the incident took place when Rajesh, 42, who was cleaning the well, attempted to climb out using a rope. Two others standing outside, were trying to pull him up. However, Rajesh lost balance and fell back into the 30-foot well.Soon, Pawan, 29, and Gopal, 52, who were engaged in cleaning a nearby well, were called for help. The duo attempted to rescue Rajesh, but they too were unable to bring him out of the well.Following this, locals alerted the fire department. A rescue team reached the spot and launched an operation to pull all three men to safety. Rajesh sustained head and leg injuries and was shifted to a hospital for treatment.
