Gurgaon: Hundreds of commuters using Garhi Road continue to face inconvenience as reconstruction of the nearly 2.5km stretch has progressed slowly, with residents claiming that only around 400 metres have been paved despite work beginning nearly three months ago.The road connects the primary health centre in Garhi village with GMDA’s master road and serves as a key access route for several residential societies, villages and upcoming housing projects in Sector 99 and nearby areas. Thousands of commuters, including office-goers and schoolchildren, use the stretch daily.According to residents, MCM awarded the Rs 2.15-crore project in March for construction of an interlocking paver-block road. Work began in May and was scheduled to be completed within four months. However, residents alleged that only a small section of the road has been completed so far.“The pace of work is extremely slow. If construction had progressed properly, a substantial portion of the road would have been ready by now. At this rate, it may take another three to six months. If the work extends into Oct, there is a possibility that GRAP restrictions could again affect construction,” said a resident of Pareena Laxmi, Gaurav Ranga.Residents also complained that streetlight poles were removed during the construction, leaving the stretch poorly lit after sunset. They said construction material and paver blocks remain scattered on the road, making commuting difficult, especially at night.Residents also alleged that despite raising the issue with the civic body on several occasions, there has been little improvement in the pace of the work.Responding to residents’ concerns, an MCM official said, “Interlocking paver blocks require a curing period, which is why the work is taking time. We expect the road to be completed within the next two months. Streetlights will also be restored after the construction is completed.”
