A Gurugram man was found hanging after his wife sought a divorce

GURGAON: A 36-year-old associate operator at a multinational company was found hanging at his home in Gurgaon’s Surat Nagar, with police investigating allegations by his family that marital discord may have preceded his death. The deceased, identified as Sanjeev Yadav, allegedly died by suicide on Thursday while only his wife, Manpreet Kaur, and their seven-year-old son were at home. Police said the child is believed to have recorded a video on a mobile phone showing his father hanging, while his mother was heard shouting for help.According to police, Manpreet immediately informed both her family and Sanjeev’s relatives after discovering him hanging.Sanjeev’s sister, Kiran, alleged that her brother had been under stress as his wife was seeking a divorce. She claimed the circumstances surrounding his death were suspicious and demanded a thorough investigation. The family has also alleged foul play, prompting police to question the wife as part of the probe. His father, Ramsevak Yadav, alleged that his son had been involved in a long-running dispute with his wife and suspected that he may have been murdered. Kiran also questioned whether Sanjeev, who she said weighed more than 100 kg, could have hanged himself, citing the video as suspicious.Police said Sanjeev, a native of Amritsar, married Manpreet, an Ambala resident, in April 2018 after the two met while working at Denso in Gurugram. The couple had a son in 2019, following which Manpreet left her job.“We handed over the body to the family after the postmortem and are investigating the case from every angle. The postmortem report is awaited, which will reveal the exact cause of death. Further action will be taken as per the law,” investigating officer Sub-Inspector Mahender Singh said.(With PTI inputs)
