Rajkot: What seemed to be a suspicious death at a construction site in the Railnagar area of the city was found to be murder, leading to the arrest of three men accused of assaulting, strangling and disposing of a labourer’s body.The deceased, Dukhishyam Bag, 45, was from Kalahandi district in Odisha. His nephew, Praful Sugariya, 23, lodged a complaint at Pradyuman Nagar police station against Pinju Bhuriya, Ajit Bhuriya and Rajesh Bhuriya for murder. The three accused were later arrested.According to the complaint, the scene of the crime was an under-construction house near Shri Bungalows on Sadhu Vaswani Kunj Road, where Dukhishyam had been working as a labourer. He had been living in Railnagar nearly three years.Police said around 9pm on Monday, Dukhishyam allegedly grasped the hand of a woman called Tanu while she and Ajit’s wife, Asha, were cooking at the site. She raised the alarm and the three accused arrived and an argument ensued. During the quarrel, Dukhishyam threw bricks lying at the site.The complaint states that Dukhishyam then went to the terrace on the second floor, followed by the accused. During a scuffle, Rajesh allegedly struck him with a shovel handle. After he fell, the three men attacked him with sticks and other objects.Police said the accused then allegedly used a metal wire used for centering to strangle Dukhishyam. According to the complaint, Rajesh and Ajit restrained him while Pinju tightened the wire around his neck. He succumbed to injuries suffered during the assault.Investigators said that around 1am, the accused returned to the terrace, lifted the body and threw it outside the compound wall of the construction site.The site supervisor informed police on Tuesday after being told that a man was lying unconscious near the premises. The body was sent for a postmortem, which indicated that Dukhishyam had died due to internal and external injuries, police said. An investigation is underway.
