According to official data, the 27 errant colleges in 2023-24 were spread across Nagpur (18), Bhandara (3), Gondia (2), and Wardha (4).

Nagpur: Disaffiliation proceedings are underway against three colleges affiliated with Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University for lacking essential infrastructure, qualified faculty, or minimum student strength. The number of such colleges had been alarmingly high at 27 in the 2023-24 academic year, but has since dropped sharply to three in 2025-26 following gradual improvements.

According to official data, the 27 errant colleges in 2023-24 were spread across Nagpur (18), Bhandara (3), Gondia (2), and Wardha (4).

At Gondwana University, three colleges were found deficient in 2025-26. Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University reported shortcomings in colleges across Buldhana, Akola, Yavatmal, and Washim during the review period.

Kavikulaguru Kalidas Sanskrit Vishwavidyalaya has denied renewal of affiliation to five colleges due to inadequate basic facilities.

Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University reported that admission capacity was reduced to zero for 192 courses across 51 colleges in 2023-24 due to infrastructure deficiencies. In 2024-25, 90 courses across the same number of colleges were similarly affected.

The government also stated that disaffiliation proceedings have been initiated against non-compliant colleges affiliated with Gondwana University, Nagpur University, and SNDT Women’s University. Officials said action is being taken at the university level to ensure adherence to academic and infrastructure standards.
