Prayagraj: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 26-year-old youth was allegedly beaten to death by his wife’s uncles near Suanari village under Hathigawa police station in Pratapgarh late Thursday, hours after the couple appeared before a court in Kunda, where the woman expressed her willingness to stay with her husband.Police said Archana (24) allegedly eloped with the victim, Shivnath Yadav alias Munnu, of Kunda, with the help of three others in June. Following the incident, Archana’s uncle, Virendra Kumar Yadav, lodged an FIR at Kunda police station against Shivnath and five others. However, when cops found the woman and produced her before a court on Thursday, she expressed her willingness to stay with Shivnath, whom she had married.However, the woman’s relatives had other plans, and the couple was waylaid while on their way to Lalgopalganj in Prayagraj. Shivnath was beaten to death.Acting on the woman’s complaint, police have arrested the two uncles of the victim’s wife, identified as Virendra Yadav (30) and Satyendra alias Jitendra Yadav (26), both residents of Kunda.Two other accused, Prem Yadav and Raj Yadav, are still at large.In her FIR, Archana alleged that she and her husband were returning to Lalgopalganj from Kunda in Pratapgarh on Thursday after recording her statement before the concerned court when her uncles and others intercepted them near Suanarai village and severely thrashed Shivnath Yadav. The victim later succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at SRN Hospital in Prayagraj on Thursday night.
